Nursery

Welcome to our Nursery!

To keep up to date with everything that is going on in school and in your child's class then make sure you have signed up to ClassDojo. Speak to your child's teacher if you need to know more or click here.

In Nursery we have two classes - Snails and Ladybirds.

In Snails the class teacher is Tracey. In Ladybirds the class teacher is Karen.

Our teaching assistants are Caroline, Emma, Jackie and Elaine.

Even though there are two different classes your child will be taught by all the staff throughout the day.

Both classes are made up of children who are aged between 3 and 4 years old. The children work towards the early learning goals - more details about what your child will learn during their time in Nursery can be found by clicking the link on the right.

In Nursery we expect:

  • Parents to share and read books daily with their child at home as well as telling stories. It is important parents talk about what they can see in the pictures and whit is happening. PSED, Communication and PD are our key areas in Nursery. Talking and listening to your child, being patient and waiting for a response are very important in supporting your child's learning.
  • We encourage our children to be independent thinkers through child led activities and peer support. It is also important that you support your child in being independent in their toileting, eating and dressing needs.
  • Parents and Carers are often invited into school for a variety of Involvement Days, please attend whenever possible. We do regular parental workshops. We open early on Tuesday mornings for reading and writing clubs and we have Fitness Friday where parents are encouraged to come and join us. Parents are vital in supporting their child's learning.

Daily Teaching

During the day your child will have small group time. They then go into continuous provision where adults follow children's interests and scaffold their learning. Children take part in enabling their own environment and have access to open ended loose parts that support all prime areas including literacy, maths and understanding of the world.

Physical Activity

We like to encourage physical fitness here at Primrose Hill. We have extensive outdoor facilities in Early Years and we actively encourage children to be physically fit. We go outside in all weathers so your child will need appropriate clothing, for example wellies in Winter and sun hats and sun cream in Summer. As well as developing gross motor skills your child will be encouraged to develop their fine motor skills - their pen grip and scissor skills. This is supported daily by our funky fingers sessions.

Snack

Children have access to a daily healthy snack and a small bottle of milk during the morning session. Throughout the day children have a water bottle labelled with their name that they can have access to throughout the day.

If you would like to discuss anything further or have any questions regarding what is being covered in Nursery then please contact the office or send a message through ClassDojo to make an appointment with the class teacher.

The NCA's CEOP Command is here to help children and young people. We are here to help if you are a young person and you or your friend (up to age 18) has been forced or tricked into taking part in sexual activity with anyone online, or in the real world. We also have advice and links to support for other online problems young people might face, such as cyberbullying and hacking. Visit our Safety Centre for advice and to report directly to CEOP, by clicking on the Click CEOP button.
