SLG Squirrels

Supported Learning Group Upper Key Stage 2

Welcome to the Supported learning class with Mrs Colbeck (class teacher) and Mrs Burke (teaching assistant).

The squirrel class

This is a supported learning group as there are children in the class with learning, language, behaviour and communication difficulties.

There are only twelve children in the class. Children come into and go out of the class as well as some who stay in the class all the time.

We do lots of practical work in the class and especially Topic activities, Coding , Design Technology and Art.

Attendance in the classes expected to be 100% and last years class won the attendance trophy fourteen times Each child receives a smiley each day that they are in the line at five to nine.

This year there are Year 4 , Year 5 and Year 6 children in the class.

During the year some children will go to the main classroom for Maths with or English or move there full time.

This is really important and all children are expected to read at school and at home every day. Some children will have extra reading lessons with Mrs Burke which is called BRP [Better Reading Partners]. These children will be expected to practise at home each day and all children who get a parental or family signature in their home / school book will earn an extra Smiley.

Our PE days are Tuesdays and Fridays and PE kit must be worn. This is a white t-shirt and black shorts. Most children bring their kit into school and leave it on their peg for the week/half term so that they don’t forget it. If you forget your kit, you will have to wear one of the spare school PE kits.

P.E. is with Mr Myring.

Coding and I.T.

Mr Samuel teaches coding on Tuesdays and Fridays. There are lots of coding programmes but Minecraft and Lego are the favourites.

Home learning challenges that are linked to our Topic. Are sent home each half term. The Internet or visiting the local library will help in completing the tasks. Daily reading is also expected.

We also learn the times tables and spellings to help us in Maths and English. Learning to tell the time is also useful both analogue and digital.

Each term there is a new topic . In the Autumn term the topic is A Kingdom United. The main subjects are Geography, Music and History along with Legends of the British Isles in English. Have a look at photos of our work on our class pages.
