Year 4/5 - Dormice

Welcome to Dormice Class!

We are made up of year 4 and year 5 children. Miss Walton is our teacher and Mrs Smith is our teaching assistant. In our class we make everyone feel welcome and respect all.

In the morning, we always study Maths, English and Reading. In the afternoon we have a mixture of lessons; Topic, Music, French and PSHE.

Maths

Every day we will be learning our times tables – by the end of the year we all must know our tables up to 12 x 12. Throughout the year we will be learning how to tell the time on different types of clocks, digital to analogue and 12hour to 24hour clocks.

English

Every week we will be practising our handwriting, spellings and grammar. The spellings which you need to know by the end of the year can found in the middle of your reading record and at the front of your home learning book.

Over the year we will be looking at different types of text and genres. We will read different types of folk and fairy tales, stories with issues and themes, and poetry. We will also be writing to persuade, debate and inform.

Reading

It is vital you read every night and an adult has signed your reading record. Over the year Miss Walton will be reading a range of Roald Dhal books; we are currently reading The BFG.

PE and Computing

Our PE day is Wednesday; we must wear a white T-shirt (different to the one you wear in school), dark shorts, skorts or leggings, and suitable shoes. Mr Myring will be teaching us PE. Mr Samuel will also be teaching us computing.

We are also very lucky to be learning how to swim. We go swimming on Friday mornings, but only until February half term.

Home Learning

You should practise your times tables and spellings every night. You should also remember to read every night! Home Learning is not set or due on a specific day each week, you will be told when Miss Walton would like it back on the day it is handed out. You will also be set special challenges relating to our current topic.
