Year 5 - Grey Seals
Welcome to the Grey Seals class!
My name is Mr Marshall and I will be looking after and teaching the Year 5 pupils with the help of our great teaching assistant, Mrs Hodkinson.
Having just recently taken over the Year 5 class I am very much looking forward to the Spring and Summer terms. If you would like a chat at any time regarding your child’s well-being or education then please do not hesitate to do so.
PE and Computing
PE and Computing will be covered by Mr Myring and Mr Samuel. Children will have an hour with each teacher on a Tuesday afternoon.
In PE, please make sure that your child has the correct kit which includes black shorts, a white t-shirt and trainers. It is best to leave this in school and taken home during the school breaks. Any child who does not have their PE kit in school will still have to take part in the lesson, wearing a kit provided by school.
We have Maths, English and reading lessons every morning and afternoons are generally reserved for topic. Topic includes Geography, History, Science, Design Technology and Art. These will be covered through our topic areas below;
- Autumn 1 - A Kingdom United
- Autumn 2 - Super Sleuth
- Spring 1 - Food, Glorious Food
- Spring 2 - Science is Super!
- Summer 1 - Amazon Adventure
- Summer 2 - Faster, Higher, Stronger
French, music and PSHE are taught weekly with certain days reserved to cover the RE curriculum.
Children are expected to read at home on a regular basic with parents or guardians signing their child’s reading record. It is really important that the child reads out loud to practise fluency and expression as this will help with understanding.
Home learning tasks will be set by myself on a regular basis. These will be set on a Friday and children will be expected to have attempted the tasks by Tuesday. The tasks set will help to further embed a child’s knowledge of a particular area.
We do strongly encourage children to practise their timetables and spellings when they get the opportunity to do so. Spellings for Year 5 can be found in the middle of their reading records.
