Geography

Our vision

At Primrose Hill, we have developed our own exciting topics such as ‘Super Salford’(EYFS 2023/2024) , ‘Greater Manchester’ and ‘Extreme Earth’.
Our Geography curriculum is purpose built for our school. It has been created to inspire pupils by giving them a curiosity and fascination about their local area, the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
In Geography, all children are taught a range of skills. These are:

  • Locational knowledge
  • Place knowledge
  • Human & Physical Geography
  • Geographical skills & fieldwork

We have a balanced approach and bespoke curriculum, tailored to our local area, that teaches skills and knowledge equally. This should help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments.
During each lesson, children can access a range of sources of geographical information, including the use of maps, atlases, diagrams, globes, aerial photographs and Digimaps. We plan regular memory makers that take the children outside of the classroom using our local area.

In 2020, a cluster of schools, including us, took part in a project to develop a scheme which would highlight our local area through the subjects of Geography and History. Although the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic paused this collaborative work with other schools, Primrose Hill continued to develop this approach innovatively and in Summer 2021 we held our own 'River Irwell Week'. We have since completed this each year and it has been very successful every time. Each year group focussed on a particular aspect of the River Irwell’s physical, human and locational features. In addition to this, each year group produced their own e-book, showcasing the work they had done (two examples of these can be seen by clicking on the links located on the right-hand side of this page). Studying such a significant local river and its impact will enhance children’s engagement and success with the learning material.

The NCA's CEOP Command is here to help children and young people. We are here to help if you are a young person and you or your friend (up to age 18) has been forced or tricked into taking part in sexual activity with anyone online, or in the real world. We also have advice and links to support for other online problems young people might face, such as cyberbullying and hacking. Visit our Safety Centre for advice and to report directly to CEOP, by clicking on the Click CEOP button.
