Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium at Primrose Hill

Background

The pupil premium fund is allocated to schools in respect of children from low income families who are currently known to be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months. 243 pupils in our school are now recorded on our Ever 6 FSM register (YR to Y6). This equates to 53.1% of our eligible roll.

Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit to ‘close the gap’ between children from disadvantaged circumstances and those above the low-income threshold. Schools can spend their pupil premium on pupils who do not meet the eligibility criteria but need extra support. The funding is not linked to a specific child, but is to be used for overall impact. However, we are held accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support pupils from low-income families.

The government's official website has more information about the pupil premium grant. This can be accessed here.

Use of the pupil premium

School leaders decide how to spend the pupil premium. This is because school leaders are best placed to assess their pupils’ needs and use funding to improve attainment. At Primrose Hill, our focus is to target spending across the following three areas; teaching, academic support and wider approaches such as behaviour, attendance and pupil wellbeing.

Accountability

Schools must show how they are using their pupil premium effectively.
They do this:

  • by publishing an annual online strategy statement (please see the link to our pupil premium plan)
  • through inspections by Ofsted
  • through published performance tables

Our commitment

We are committed to supporting improved outcomes for our disadvantaged pupils. In order to help our disadvantaged pupils overcome their barriers to learning, be happy and successful at Primrose Hill and in their future lives, we are guided by the following.

  • We aim to instil a passion for learning in all our pupils.
  • We have high expectations of everyone.
  • We promote having a positive, growth mindset to help inspire our pupils to see and strive to meet their full potential.
  • We focus on the quality of teaching and learning in order to meet the needs of all our pupils.
  • We ensure that personalised provision is in place for children who are Pupil Premium-eligible and have their barriers for learning identified and educational needs accurately assessed and met.
  • We deploy staff effectively to work with pupils who need the most support and training is provided where this is necessary to support pupils' learning.
  • We have systems in place which carefully monitor, manage and support good behaviour and attendance for all our pupils. If poor attendance is an issue, this is addressed as a priority.
  • Every effort is made to engage and empower parents and carers in the education and progress of their child.
